The Heart of Scouting

Troop 194 is a Scout-led troop serving families in Surprise, Arizona. We meet Tuesday evenings at the Marley Park Heritage Clubhouse, but the real heart of our program is what happens beyond the meeting room. Our Scouts camp, hike, backpack, serve their community, learn outdoor skills, and take on adventures that challenge them to grow.

Our troop is built around the Patrol Method. Scouts are organized into mixed-age patrols where younger Scouts learn alongside more experienced Scouts. Patrol Leaders lead their patrols, and the Senior Patrol Leader and Patrol Leaders’ Council plan and lead the troop’s program. Adults are there to coach, support, and keep the program safe, while giving Scouts the space to make decisions, solve problems, and learn from experience.

Adventure is a big part of Troop 194. Throughout the year, our Scouts participate in monthly campouts, summer camp, service projects, wilderness adventures, and high-adventure opportunities such as Philmont. Some weekends teach camping or first aid. Others may involve backpacking, swimming, conservation, wilderness survival, or simply trying something the Scouts decided would be fun. The destination changes, but the goal remains the same: give young people real opportunities to lead, grow, and discover what they are capable of.
